There are some exciting new anime shows and films coming out in 2020, but you will have to wait a few months to see them. There are a lot of things to look forward to such as the final season of Attack on Titan and the Demon Slayer film, but this winter season seems a bit lacklustre. I have done my usual research and have decided that the following few anime should be worth a watch in early 2020.
In/Spectre (Kyokou Suiri)
In/Spectre follows two characters named Kotoko and Kuro. Both have been touched by spirits called yokai and have separately gained unique superhuman powers. To gain her powers Kotoko has given up an eye and a leg, in order to become the ‘God of Wisdom’. Kuro’s personal life has just fallen apart so when he finds that he has a special connection with Kotoko teaming up together seems like a good idea. Together the pair have to deal with troublemaker yokai from the spirit world that are causing chaos in the human world.

Plunderer
Plunderer is set in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by the so-called ‘Count’.
Every human born is branded with a ‘count’. The ‘count’ can be anything from the number of miles they have walked or number of compliments given to them by others. If your ‘count’ drops to 0, you will be sent into the Abyss. When Hina’s mother’s ‘count’ dropped to 0, Hina inherited a mission from her Mother, to find ‘The Fabled Ace’. Plunderer follows Hina’s journey to find ‘The Fabled Ace’ and the characters she meets along the way, both good and bad.

Somali and the Forest Spirit (Somali to Mori no Kamisama)
The world is ruled by spirits, goblins, and all manner of strange creatures. After a war, humans began to rapidly dwindle in number, and were then hunted down by the magical non-humans. One day, a golem and a lone human girl named Somali, disguised as a non-human with her horned hood, meet. She travels with the golem, another rare species, that she calls ‘Father’. Father is a watchman, a protector of the forest, with a great many abilities that helps them on their journey to find other humans.

Dorohedoro
The story of Dorohedoro takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting. Split into two separate dimensions; the Hole, a dismal cityscape where humans reside; and the sorcerers’ world, home of sorcerers. Sorcerers regularly visit the Hole in order to practice their magic on human victims, leading to huge numbers of disfigured survivors. The sorcerers possess free access to and from the cesspool, and with little challenge to their authority, the magic users appear untouchable to most, apart from a select few. One of these is Kaiman, more reptile than man, he is one of the few who do not fear the sorcerers. Cursed by his appearance and tormented by nightmares, magic users are his only clue to restoring his life to normal.
