first Campus summer school

Summer School 2021

We succeeded in running one summer school this year and the young people who engaged with the project were amazing.

A big thank you to First Campus for working with us throughout the Covid Pandemic. With their assistance we were able to run our annual animation summer school and it went down a storm!

With the workshop being taught remotely the young people demonstrated great skill in exploring their own artwork and ideas and navigating new software and technology. They are a constant inspiration to us at Turnip Starfish. Their strength, ingenuity and creativity in the last two years has been outstanding.

The University of South Wales is the lead institution for First Campus, which represents all Further and Higher Education institutions in South-East Wales.  The project is HEFCW funded as part of the Reaching Wider initiative, which aims to increase higher education participation from underrepresented groups and communities in the region. They achieve this by creating innovative and exciting study opportunities and learning pathways that build confidence and raise aspirations. First Campus has been continuously funded for over eighteen years. It represents part of the commitment of Welsh Government to ensuring that higher education is for everyone in Wales, regardless of their background.

“I would just like to say a big thank you for the last two weeks. The work we have just seen is amazing.” Parent

“Thank you both so much. (Our children) really enjoyed this project. They loved the sound effects you added to the videos. (They) wanted me to tell you that they especially loved the ‘rib crunching’ effect! Thank you for all your hard work and all the support you gave them.” Parent
