What manga to read

Stuck for something to do? Why not try reading a manga?!
Reading manga takes a little bit of time to get used to. This is because you read it from the back of the book to the front and it is also read right to left. Once you get used to it, reading becomes quite natural, I often have to remind myself at times that Western comics, like Marvel, are usually read the opposite way.
Whilst we are all stuck inside for quite some time why not spend some of it reading? Reading an actual physical manga is awesome and it feels special, but since we are in lockdown it’s not always easy to get hold of a copy. There are websites that you can read manga on such as Crunchyroll and Viz.com although you often have to sign up to join them, but there are also others if you search for them. Here are my top reading suggestions for you!

1. The Promised Neverland, Posuka Demizu
If you’ve seen the The Promised Neverland anime then you’ll love the manga, it’s certainly a page turner! It’s just too good and to describe it further without spoiling anything is impossible. Maybe the word appetising would work. Rated OT (Older Teen)

2. My Hero Academia, Kōhei Horikoshi
The My Hero Academia anime stays true to the manga, with very little filler, so most that read it are those who just have to know what’s in the future for the heroes in training without having to wait for the anime. It’s updated weekly so you can catch up quite quickly. Rated T (Teen)

3. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hirohiko Araki
Whilst Hirohiko Araki takes his time releasing chapters of part 8, any true JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fan will go back to the very beginning and read each manga over again, all 940+ chapters. Analysing the difference between the anime and manga is also an interesting way to pass the time. Rated OT (Older Teen)

4. One Piece, Eiichiro Oda
One Piece will help to keep you busy too, with a staggering 972 chapters, cheeky Luffy will keep boredom at bay! Rated OT (Older Teen)

5. Demon Slayer, Koyoharu Gotōge
I absolutely love Demon Slayer. I’ve been reading it since I found out about the anime, and it is so good! I keep going back to different story arcs to re-read because I enjoyed them so much. The most recent chapter made me cry… Rated T (Teen)

6. Soul Eater, Atsushi Okubo
An essential read for any manga fan especially if you enjoyed the Soul Eater anime. The anime was cut short so the real ending for Soul Eater can only be found in the manga. Rated OT (Older Teen)

7. Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima
Fairy Tail is a great manga, full of magic and adventure. The stories are awesome as well as the characters. It’s a really good read especially for times like these, when it can be a bit lonely inside on your own. Rated T (Teen)

8. Tokyo Ghoul, Sui Ishida
Even though Tokyo Ghoul is a popular anime, the manga is much better. Everything is explained and the characters have more depth to them. If you like Tokyo Ghoul then I would highly recommend reading the manga. Rated OT (Older Teen)

9. Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto
If you really like Naruto anime, then reading it is a must especially since it was one of the early anime’s released in the West and may have been translated incorrectly. The manga was released later on and tends to have a more accurate translation. Rated T (Teen)

10. Sailor Moon, Naoko Takeuchi
The Sailor Moon manga is beautiful. The illustrations are so elegant and fine and it has such a beautiful story. It’s not a very long read but it’s definitely worth it. Rated T (Teen)

These are a selection of manga that I read or I would like to read. I would also recommend any manga by CLAMP (there are a few), Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama, and any of the horror manga by Junji Ito.
