Anime Spring Season 2019 – What I’ll be watching!

April means spring is here, fresh flowers, new life and NEW ANIME! This doesn’t mean that I am giving up on the other shows that I’m watching. The only series that has ended recently is The Promised Neverland. This means that I am still watching Black Clover, Fairy Tail – The Final Series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures: Golden Wind and The Rise of the Shield Hero.

To add to those, there are several series that I am planning to watch this spring. Anime shows that have a new season or part are One Punch Man: Season 2 and Attack on Titan: Season 3, part 2. These two shounen animes are quite violent with a lot of graphic imagery, however the narratives for both have previously been amazing with plenty of excellent plot twists…especially in the end credits of Attack on Titan: Season 3, part 1 where there was a big plot reveal. I’m really looking forward to both of these returning to my screen.

Not being satisfied with just those, I’ve also put together a top three completely new anime that I am also looking forward to watching this spring:

Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (We Never Learn) This is a school life anime. The main character, Nariyuki Yuiga, is charged with the task of bringing two-star students up to standard in their weakest subjects, in order to progress to University. I’m going to give this anime a watch because it sounds quite light hearted and funny, which will be a nice break amongst all the shounen anime that I’m watching. The character design and animation look quite pleasing too.

Kimetsu no Yaiba (Blade of Demon Destruction) This is a shounen anime, so expect fighting! Tanjirou has always taken care of his family since his father passed, however one day he returns home to find his family slaughtered and his sister turned into a demon. His quest is to find a cure for his sister and for revenge. This series interests me as I quite like anime and manga that involve Japanese demons and spirits. The inclusion of folkloric creatures also adds a more interesting dimension to the shounen genre and I hope it will be a good watch!

Fruits Basket The most awaited ‘new’ anime of Spring 2019. I say new, but Fruits Basket was actually released as an anime previously in 2001, which I haven’t seen. The manga didn’t finish until 2006, which makes me believe that the ending of the original anime was disappointing and may be why they are releasing a new version. The shoujo anime series follows a girl, Tooru Honda, who suffers a family tragedy. She ends up living in a tent on some private land and when the land owners find out about her she is brought into the family home, but is that a good or bad thing? And are the land owners really what they seem? As it is a series that has been totally remade, I have high hopes for Fruits Baskets. The storyline intrigues me and once again we have some mythical creatures involved in the story.

I’m looking forward to seeing where these new shows take me over the next few months. I always watch at least 3 episodes of an anime before I commit to it or leave it. I hope I chose well this season!
